James is a media and strategic communication scholar, with an emphasis on sports media and science communication. Drawing from a strong theoretical background in framing, cultivation, and parasocial interaction, the purpose of his research is to analyze how media messages – across mediums, genres, programs, and platforms – inform our attitudes, influence our beliefs, and shape our social reality. Additionally, he is focused on how media communication can inform public relations and strategic communication efforts. Within a sports context, he is interested in studying non-normative sports/athletes, online fandom, and sports branding. As for science, his research revolves around emerging technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence), space exploration, and environmentalism. Originally from Australia, James received his M.A. in Mass Communication with an emphasis on Sports Media from Texas Tech University.
